believe

"what people believe to be real, will be real in its consequences" -- W.I. Thomas

came across this quote while reading my reading materials for Health Practice.. the article is titled "Parsons, American Sociology of Medicine and the Sick Role". basically, it is just about how medicine is not just based on the biology of the body, but due to other environmental and social factors. so they were writing about the placebo effect... how Western Medicine isn't able to explain, because it separates the mind from the body. hence, the use of the quote.... if we think that we have received a drug, our body will respon as if we have received the drug. and there's this sentence..:

"the way in whcih you deifine the situation will affect your experience of the situation"
--some argument developed by sociologists.

:)

something for thought... ain't all humans the same? :) the ones who triump in anything are those who believe. it can be applied in almost anything.

for example, u go into an operating theatre, and you know that this operation is of high success rate. it will be successful because you know it will be and also because you have the belief that it will be, and u work towards it.

let's say you are taking on a high risk op. you have doubts. the belief isn't as strong. might not work out in the end...

so whatever it is, always start something with the belief of success. don't start anything with thoughts in mind that it might be wrong. for that is when the mistake starts.

application:

exams! believe that u will pass. :) this will change ur whole experience of preparing for it.

ah. crappy mind in the morning.
