T'was an Italian Night

:)

Eggplant Lasagne. Foccacia. Grilled vegetables platter. liquid lemon mousse.

hhaha.. yes that was pretty much what we had for Italian National Night yesterday night :)

Everything went well... from the first item (the choir) to the last.. (the choir) haha... i must admit that i was nervous about going on stage conducting the choir. i had the "chills". weird though...with so many times on a stage i'm still nervous whenever i have to do something different from the rest on stage. other than the trumpet solo who sort of broke down with weird notes.. (heh), the rest was really good... then... Harvard's Parky's and Kee Win's hilarious 3 tenors... etc. The two arias that were sung.. "amaryllis" and "lascia chio panga" brought memories back to last november where i accompanied both songs for voice students. so did the funny cat duet that Megan and Penny did... which reminded me of sec 3 when TKGS did that song which just had "miau" in it..

i guess this is the reason why i find it so homely in IH. because of these events, which give me the chance to do what i was familiar with. Teaching and preparing the choir for the night was a task which initially brought much headache to me, as would friends like yingyi and weiyong would know.. for i was wrecking my brain and asking around for "italian choral songs"... or any "famous italian folksongs". i was prepared to arrange them into 2 parts if need be.. and i guess my efforts searching online paid off as i found, to my greatest delight, the famous neapolitan folksong - 'funiculi funicula', similar to what an email to my choir seniors suggested. :) this light-hearted piece in 4 parts with simple arrangement simply saved me from searching further :) it fitted perfectly with what i had in mind-- something light, simple, non-operatic, not too choral.. and easy to learn. quite a bit of requirements there, but i must say that i have never been one to settle for anything other than what i want... and so i remembered being so light-headed after the first choir practice in which i had absolutely became euphoric after that...not only did i enjoy myself, i also realised that through this, i got to know a lot of people in college. :)

and now that this event is over, i have to get started on erm, recovering. :) and of cos, catching up with school work! whee!

oh yes, did i mention i screwed up the piano part for funiculi funicula? haha.. the pianist had to go off for a performance in uni... and so i had to get Harvard to conduct for me while i tried to read the score under dim lights. i guess this is a reason why so many pianists have defects in their vision. haha. excuses.:)

next event: Music Night!
