old place, new feelings...

Gonna be a busy weekend this week. what with a small test, leadership training and loads of house(apartment)-warmings... hope to catch up on my sleep and other important matters after the test. and the busy weekend of course.

Had commencement dinner just now and i must say.. yes it is different. It seems like a dinner more for the freshers, to welcome them officially to the academic year in IH and for people to mingle around. Had a really good mix of people on my dinner table, but was only one of the 2 seniors there. Seems like i could talk to the Americans this sem if I try to.. and realised that there are some really nice ones! :) and after that it was just going to the graduate bistro (again) and had dessert and drinks and coming back to do my PBL research cos i've been so caught up with studying. bad planning i must say hence staying up till so late and not feeling THAT sleepy.

i shall go for run soon. time to make use of the summer weather. IT's HOTTER HERE THAN IN PERTH. can u believe it?! this is so bad... and it's so warm at night that i can't sleep! it's nice in the day... but yea..

and how can i forget! WE CRACKED THE RIBS TODAY! my goodness. it's actually quite fun. not to sound disgusting or lack of sympathy but it was really something that i will never get to do ever again! unless i do autopsy, but that's another point. we used a SAW to saw open the "breastbone" and with the exposed muscles of the chest wall AND the cracked ribs on both sides... we saw the lungs! whee. i took out the right lung today! whee! it's actually fun to do this and our tutor's like.. "don't worry about hurting! he's dead!" which sounded really mean but logically true. i think women surgeons are more delicate. hurmpf. reason being: 1. we have showed that we can dissect the layers better 2. we can crack the ribs better 3. we have strength too!... etc. okay main point is that the side of the ribs that was cracked by me, en en and zhuan was so neat and clean! thoracic surgery? hmmmmm

and i came back smelling like shit and on the way home we were saying.. "oh man, if we're going to have ribs for dinner i'm going to give it a pass.. " it's funny how affected we are by the food we eat after the anat prac. but i guess it will be different after having a lot of pracs.. but maybe not when the prac had fluid from the cadaver squirting everywheree!

missing my comfort zone a bit. but we just gotta push on...
