are white lies, lies?
why do we even lie in the first place? to give someone else a piece of mind? to be able to do what we want?
but what do we gain from the lies other than the temporary trust? for lies will be uncovered sooner or later and the trust, breached and taken away. For trust is something that is gained after a really really long time. really long. and it can be taken away at the speed of.. light. we never trust someone easily, but we never fail to doubt someone quickly.
so why lie in the first place?
it is never. NEVER.. beneficial to lie.

sometimes we lie to protect the person we're lying to. perhaps we feel the other party isn't ready for the truth yet, so we simply delay in telling the truth till a more opportune time.
not condoning lying, but sometimes if we're forced into a corner, lying seems the only way out.
hi... not really sure who you are but i just believe that if the truth will hurt when the person being lied to finds out soon... why lie? cos you will only end up having that trust breached.
this discourse could go on for quite a bit. let's just agree to disagree. =)
well, i can't remember our relationship back in tk.. i was your 'sister'? xiuxing was my 'daughter'. remember?
hmm. piggybagging a little
sometimes while lying to protect i think we hope that those we love would not be so quick to judge what they perceive as our grave mistakes when they find out and the believe that forgiveness would be eventual (hopefully swift) since the lie was borne of no ill intention.
stopping to dwell on the 'breached trust' is no crime. but dwelling and stopping short there is one's own selfish indulgence of how he has been mistreated and deceived.
why else is forgiveness is so oft preached?
heh.. hi dawn! didn't know u read my blog :)
both of you make sense. guess what happens is that what's right to someone may be perceived as wrong to another. unacceptable. and when that happens, one is quick to judge what's right and what's wrong.
i guess when one is lying to do good for someone he/she's lying to, ie surprising them pleasantly, it is okay to do that.
but i guess there's always a reason why the person being lied to has such strong opposition to what's being covered up and hence, no haste should be made about the matter. there should be other ways of approaching the matter i believe...
haha, many people read your blog. Just that we hid until a time comes where we jump out of nowhere to give you a scare/surprise.
honesty is indeed the best policy, yet how many of us do the right things all the time? intentions aside, we do stupid things at times and we have tonnes of reasons why we do them. Perhaps before we judge, we should assess all information available before dealing out the death sentence.
dawn did mention the corner, a situation where we could only lie to get out. True or may not be true yet there are definitely times where we will be so desperate that we resort to lying and at that time, instead of talking about breaching trust, review the circumstances and try understanding the root of the problem.
How come i am even writing this, well... hmmz.
btw, hi.
