commencement dinner... and my first prac.

we had the commencement dinner for IH yesterday evening. basically it's just to start the new school year! so we were back in our rooms trying to "dress up" so-called "appropriately formal" for the dinner.. cos that's what the dress code is for females... guys were told to go in jacket and tie. haha. anyways, on top of that, we have to wear our academic gowns, which basically look like those robes from "harry potter-the movie".. and we had 4 rows of table! haha... (i just realised)... and we had the head and deputy head of college, with all the tutors, and they sat at the High Table. :)

dinner was great! we had teriyaki salmon with iced bonito and wheat noodle for entree.. and roasted chicken breast with mash and other sauce as main course! :) i drank chardonnay with orange juice... had 1 and a half glass of it, and i turned red after the whole dinner... everyone was like .."jiahui,... did you drink alot?" haha.. oops lah.

so after all the toast... "TO FRATENITAS!" "TO INTERNATIONAL HOUSE!" and... "YUMMMMMMM SIIINNGGG!" haha... we headed down to UNI... which was almost like 20mins walk... ON HEELS... in our ACADEMIC GOWNS... all the way to "graduate bistro"... FOR DESSERT. my goodness. but it was fun haha :) just that after the whole thing we were half dead from walking on heels.

so i came back to my room... and i sat down, and starting studying. i was reading the prac that i have the next day (today)... and was figuring out what tables i should draw and stuff. and i was practically half asleep by the time i finished and conked out on my bed.

well, before the dinner, we went school for 50mins of lecture. at 8AM. gosh. 8am lectures are so not good. we're all half awake. and it's ONLY ONE lect. for the day! unless you are in practical group two, you won't be in school for the later part of the day and u end school when people start school! but i had to go to student health services to get my blood tests results and then back to school to have my skin test read.. AND. i have to go for a retest for the mantoux skin test. how nice lah. i'm gonna be poked by the needle again... hopefully it'll swell. grr.

k... about my first practical.

- nobody checks your work, if you don't record down the results, nobody knows
- you do it with a lab partner
- the lab coat is really stuffy but i sat next to a window and it felt nice and warm.
- wearing gloves for 3 hours makes it feel as if it's your second skin.
- the debriefing after the prac didn't answer much questions
- chlorofoam spills
- there's powder in the inner layer of the gloves
- yeast stinks
- 4 hour prac isn't nice
- and we'll have a piss prac near the end of the sem!

yups basically that's about it. me and Tim (my lab partner) were like puzzling over the physiology of the experiment. *sian* down for dinner!
